Overview
One minute on foot from both Takayama Station and the neighboring bus center, Chisun Grand Takayama keeps luggage-heavy arrivals simple. Its 78 non-smoking rooms range from an 18-square-meter semidouble to a 50-square-meter top-floor family room with two queen beds.
A guest bathing area with a jacuzzi and mist sauna offers a place to unwind. Free coffee and Wi-Fi turn the breakfast room into a lounge during the afternoon and evening. You'll need to head out for dinner.
Rooms
All room categories have Simmons beds, but the layouts differ meaningfully. The 18-square-meter Standard Semi-double has a 140-centimeter bed, a shower booth instead of a bathtub, and a separate toilet. Guests who want a bathtub should choose another category.
The Grand Queen measures 20 square meters, the Standard Twin 23, and the Grand Twin and Grand Triple 27. The Triple adds a 90-centimeter extra bed for a third guest. On the top floor, the 50-square-meter Family Room accommodates four people with two 160-centimeter beds and views toward the surrounding mountains.
A 27-square-meter Universal Room accommodates two guests. The route from its sleeping area to the toilet and bathroom is designed for wheelchair use.
Facilities
The second-floor bathing area combines a jacuzzi with a mist sauna. It is free for overnight guests and currently opens from 3:00 p.m. to midnight, providing a late option after sightseeing or dinner.
Free rental bicycles are available in limited numbers from reception and can't be reserved. From early afternoon until late evening, the first-floor breakfast room becomes a free coffee space with Wi-Fi and power outlets, except when it has been privately booked.
Dining
The paid breakfast buffet currently runs from 6:30 to 9:30. Around 60 Japanese and Western items include Hida-grown rice, local and seasonal dishes, breads, and familiar morning choices.
Breakfast is the restaurant's only meal service. Later in the day, the same 32-seat room is used for self-service coffee rather than lunch or dinner, so evening meals depend on restaurants elsewhere in central Takayama.
Location and transport
Takayama Station serves Limited Express Hida trains toward Nagoya and Toyama. The bus center next door handles routes beyond the railway, including services to Shirakawa-go and the Okuhida hot-spring area. Staying in the Takayama Station Area keeps both options close when an itinerary combines rail and highway buses.
Takayama's old town is about 10 minutes away on foot. Sanmachi, Takayama Jinya, and the morning markets can therefore fit naturally into a central sightseeing day without requiring a separate local ride.
Why stay here
The range of room layouts is the clearest reason to compare Chisun Grand Takayama with its station-side neighbors. Couples can choose among several 20-to-27-square-meter options, while the triple and family configurations let small groups stay close to both trains and buses.
Sanmachi and Takayama Jinya are part of the central walking area, while the Miyagawa Morning Market rewards an earlier start. Hida Folk Village lies in the opposite direction and requires a local bus trip from the station area.
Good to know
The Standard Semi-double has a shower but no bathtub. The 30-space mechanical car park is first come, first served, can't be reserved, and currently costs 1,000 yen per night; vehicle size restrictions apply. Rental bicycles are also limited and unavailable for advance reservation.
