Overview
Selected rooms at Centurion Hotel & Spa Kurashiki have private open-air baths, and the hotel is about five minutes on foot from Kurashiki Station. The Bikan Historical Quarter and Ohara Museum of Art are around ten minutes away, so canal-side walks and gallery visits don't require a local bus.
Rooms
Room size varies considerably. Smaller options start at about 17 square meters, while the standard Suite Room starts at about 47 square meters. A Standard Twin has two 120-centimeter-wide beds in around 18 square meters, so compare floor space if you're sharing or carrying large bags.
Larger twins and suites can accommodate groups, but check the bed arrangement as carefully as the maximum occupancy. The standard suite sleeps up to seven with two double beds and as many as three sofa beds. Four guests share the double beds, with sofa beds added from the fifth guest onward.
Private open-air baths are limited to designated room categories. Some of these rooms also have terraces, so book the exact category if outdoor space is important.
Facilities
The men's and women's public baths each include a sauna. Cold showers are available, but there are no cold plunge pools. Overnight guests can bathe around the clock except during cleaning, normally from 11:00 to noon and until 15:00 on Fridays.
Paid washing machines and dryers are helpful on longer stays. Guests with tattoos aren't permitted to use the public baths.
Dining
Breakfast is served at the first-floor ASAGE from 06:30 to 09:30. Guests choose a Japanese or Western plate at check-in, then help themselves to buffet dishes such as Kurashiki udon and seasonal fruit. The early start leaves time to eat before a morning train.
Location and transport
The hotel is on the south side of the Kurashiki Station Area, within walking distance of both the railway and the historic quarter. It isn't directly connected to the station.
Local JR trains reach Okayama Station in about 17 minutes, where passengers can change for the Sanyo Shinkansen. Kurashiki Station has no Shinkansen service, so factor that local connection into onward travel plans.
Airport access
Nonstop buses run from Okayama Momotaro Airport to Kurashiki Station's north exit in about 35 minutes. From the bus stop, allow around ten minutes to cross the station and continue to the hotel. Check the timetable against your flight, as the bus stops at the station rather than the hotel door.
Why stay here
A short visit combining a rail arrival with time in the historic quarter is easy to manage on foot, without adding a bus or taxi. Rooms with private open-air baths give couples or groups a reason to keep part of the evening free, although larger occupancies may involve shared beds.
Around the canal, white-walled storehouses and willow-lined streets lead to shops selling local canvas and denim. You can visit the Ohara Museum of Art, stop at a cafe in a converted townhouse, and then walk back to the hotel.
Good to know
There is no on-site parking. The partner municipal car park east of the station is about two minutes away on foot; take your parking ticket to reception. Check-in begins at 15:00, and check-out is by 11:00.
