Overview
Near Kaminarimon, Asakusa Tobu Hotel keeps Sensoji, the surrounding streets and the Sumida River within walking distance. The Tobu and Ginza Line entrances at Asakusa Station are about a minute away on foot, so you can explore locally before heading across Tokyo or north toward Nikko.
Rooms range from compact doubles to four-bed layouts, including Hello Kitty-themed rooms. Bathroom arrangements vary, and some larger rooms don't have a view, so compare these details alongside floor area.
Rooms
Double A rooms measure 16 square meters and have a 160-centimeter-wide bed for one or two guests. They come with a shower but no bathtub. If you want a soak after sightseeing, compare the bathroom details of the larger categories before booking. Many rooms have a bath with a separate washing area, along with a separate toilet and washbasin.
For four guests, the 36-square-meter Deluxe Quadruple provides four separate 120-centimeter-wide beds rather than relying on a sofa bed. These rooms don't have a view. Twin and triple categories fill the gap between a compact double and a room for four.
The two Hello Kitty designs also measure 36 square meters and contain four beds. One uses pink cherry-blossom decorations, while the other combines Japanese-style details with a more restrained palette. Both separate the bathroom, toilet and washbasin, which helps when several people are getting ready at once.
Facilities
Coin laundries are available on the seventh, eleventh and thirteenth floors. You can check machine availability on the room television before carrying your washing upstairs or downstairs. Shared microwaves on the fifth and ninth floors are convenient for snacks and takeaway meals.
All guestrooms are non-smoking, with a smoking room on the third floor. Check-in begins at 2pm and checkout is at 11am. Drivers must reserve parking by telephone, and the mechanical parking system has vehicle size limits.
Dining
Breakfast is served in the third-floor restaurant from 6:30am to 10am. The buffet includes rice balls with a choice of fillings, seasonal Japanese side dishes and Danish pastries. You can have a Japanese breakfast or start with pastries before heading out.
Lunch runs from 11:30am to 2:30pm, with last orders at 1:30pm. The set course offers a choice of Japanese or Western main dishes if you'd like to return for a meal between outings around Asakusa.
Location and transport
The Ginza Line entrance at Exit 7 is about a minute's walk away. Direct trains serve Ueno and Ginza before continuing across central Tokyo to Shibuya. Tobu's main entrance is similarly close, with trains to Tokyo Skytree and limited express services to Tobu-Nikko and Kinugawa-Onsen. Early departures for either destination don't require crossing the city before boarding.
The Toei Asakusa Line is slightly farther away, about three minutes on foot from Exit A5. This is the line used by through trains to the airports. Each operator has separate entrances and platforms, so allow more time than the street-level walk alone suggests.
Airport access
Selected Keikyu trains from Haneda Airport continue onto the Toei Asakusa Line without a change. From Narita Airport, Keisei Access Express services that run through to the Asakusa Line can also reach Asakusa directly. Check the destination of your departure because not every airport train follows this route.
The Keisei Skyliner runs to Nippori and Ueno, not Asakusa, and requires an onward connection. Allow time for the station walk and reaching the platform in addition to the train journey.
Why stay here
Tobu's nearby platforms are particularly handy if your Tokyo stay comes before or after a trip to Nikko or Kinugawa. Four-bed rooms also give families or friends sharing a room an alternative to smaller layouts nearby.
Nakamise's souvenir shops and food stalls line the approach to Sensoji, while the river provides a different walking route. Across Sumida River Walk, Tokyo Mizumachi's shops and places to eat lead toward Tokyo Skytree Town. You can combine the temple district and Skytree area in one outing without taking a train between them.
Good to know
The Tsukuba Express has its own Asakusa station. It's farther west than the Tobu and subway entrances near the hotel, so check the operator as well as the station name when planning your arrival.
