Overview
Just across from Abashiri Station, Toyoko Inn Hokkaido Okhotsk Abashiri Ekimae is about one minute away on foot. That short walk helps on early train days, after a flight-and-bus transfer from Memanbetsu Airport, or when Abashiri is one stop on a longer eastern Hokkaido itinerary.
The 159-room hotel covers the essentials with self-service check-in, laundry facilities, and a free morning buffet. Free first-come parking for 96 vehicles also makes a combined rail and road trip easier to manage.
Rooms
The room lineup includes a wheelchair-accessible Heartful Room B. This is also one of Toyoko Inn's train-view branches, an unusual detail for guests who enjoy watching local rail activity.
A rail view isn't guaranteed. It may be available only from certain rooms or a corridor, so contact the hotel before booking if the view matters to you.
Facilities
Self-check-in machines and a self-service cloakroom simplify arrival and luggage storage. Coin-operated washers and dryers are handy during a longer Hokkaido trip.
Parking is a notable advantage here. The multi-level garage has 60 free spaces, with another 36 in the surface lot; both operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The garage has vehicle size and weight limits, so drivers with larger cars should check the restrictions before arrival.
Dining
A free breakfast buffet is served from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM. That schedule covers many ordinary departure days, but anyone leaving before 6:30 AM will need another breakfast plan.
There isn't a full-service restaurant for lunch or dinner. Plan later meals around central Abashiri or along the day's sightseeing route.
Location and transport
The hotel is in the Abashiri Station Area, where two JR routes meet. Limited Express Okhotsk trains run between Abashiri and Sapporo, while Special Rapid Taisetsu services connect with Asahikawa. The Senmo Main Line continues toward Shiretoko Shari and Kushiro.
Each route supports a different itinerary. The Sapporo and Asahikawa services handle longer journeys across Hokkaido, while the Senmo Main Line serves eastern rail trips. Local buses, taxis, and rental cars take over for sightseeing within Abashiri.
Airport access
A public airport bus connects Memanbetsu Airport directly with Abashiri Station in about 30 to 35 minutes, with departures scheduled around domestic flights. From the station stop, it's only a short walk to the hotel.
This is a scheduled public bus, not a hotel shuttle. Check the current timetable against your flight, particularly if you're arriving late in the day.
Why stay here
Free parking makes the hotel useful beyond train journeys, while the included breakfast removes one morning errand. On a first or last night in Abashiri, those details can matter as much as the one-minute station walk.
Abashiri's main sights are dispersed. The Aurora icebreaker terminal is closer to the waterfront, while Abashiri Prison Museum and the Okhotsk Ryu-hyo Museum require a bus, taxi, or car from the station area.
Good to know
Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, and checkout is at 10:00 AM. Parking can't be reserved, and the multi-level garage has vehicle restrictions. Seasonal sightseeing transport and drift-ice conditions can change, so confirm winter schedules before setting out.
