Overview
Breakfast happens in Hakodate Morning Market. Tokyu Stay Hakodate-Asaichi Akari no Yu is about four minutes from Hakodate Station and one minute from the market, so an early seafood meal can fit naturally before a train or a day of sightseeing.
Every room has a washer-dryer and microwave, two particularly helpful features on a longer trip. Natural hot-spring baths occupy the top floor. Together, these details give the stay more depth than a simple station-side overnight without sacrificing the convenience of the Hakodate Station Area.
Rooms
Seven non-smoking room types range from 16-square-meter doubles to a 35-square-meter Universal Room. Every room has a washer-dryer, microwave, and shoe dryer, which helps when you're packing light, staying several nights, or dealing with wet footwear.
Kitchenettes are available in the Standard Twin, Corner Twin, and Luxury Twin, but not in every category. The 33-square-meter Corner Twin sleeps up to three and separates the bath from the toilet, while the 34-square-meter Luxury Twin adds a private semi-open-air hot-spring bath. Accommodating up to four guests, the Universal Room is arranged for easier access.
Facilities
Akari no Yu occupies the top floor of the 18-story building, with gender-separated open-air baths and views across Hakodate Bay and the city. The natural sodium-chloride spring is available during morning and evening periods, so there's time for a soak before breakfast or after sightseeing.
One floor below, the Akari lounge looks toward Mount Hakodate. The separate Kagayaki lounge serves drinks and Hokkaido ice cream during selected evening hours. It offers another place to wind down without heading back into town.
Dining
The market-based breakfast is a highlight. Guests take a breakfast ticket to one of 19 partner shops in Hakodate Morning Market and choose from more than 65 dishes, including seafood bowls, sashimi, and grilled-fish set meals.
It's a different rhythm from a hotel buffet. Some partner shops open from 6:00, but hours vary, and the ticket can also be used for another meal at selected shops during their opening hours.
Location and transport
Hakodate Station is about four minutes away on foot, the bus terminal about five minutes, and Hakodate Morning Market about one minute. The Bay Area and Motomachi are each roughly 15 minutes away on foot. Several of Hakodate's best-known waterfront and historic sights are therefore within walking distance.
For places farther across the city, streetcars from Hakodate Ekimae serve the Bay Area, Motomachi, Goryokaku, and Yunokawa. The station side remains convenient for sightseeing even if you don't plan to rent a car.
Airport access
Shuttle buses connect Hakodate Airport directly with JR Hakodate Station in about 20 minutes. From the station stop, the final leg to the hotel is the same short walk used by rail arrivals. There is no airport rail line.
Why stay here
The four-minute station walk simplifies arrivals, departures, airport-bus connections, and early visits to the morning market. In-room laundry and selected kitchenettes make a multi-night stay easier to manage, while the top-floor baths provide a genuine reason to return early in the evening.
The Bay Area and Motomachi are close enough to reach on foot, while the streetcar opens up Goryokaku, Yunokawa, and other parts of the city. You can start with seafood near the hotel, spend the day exploring Hakodate's waterfront or historic streets, and return to the hot spring without changing bases.
Good to know
Hokkaido Shinkansen trains use Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, not central Hakodate. Hakodate Liner trains cover the remaining journey to Hakodate Station in about 20 minutes, so build that transfer into long-distance rail plans.
Breakfast partner hours and menus vary. The affiliated car park is also first come, first served, with no advance reservations.
