Overview
The free sightseeing bus at OMO5 Hakodate by Hoshino Resorts connects guests with the waterfront, Goryokaku, and the Mount Hakodate Ropeway. The hotel is about five minutes on foot from Hakodate Station and has hot-spring baths for a soak after sightseeing.
The bus is especially helpful if you want to cover several parts of the city during a short stay. You'll need to plan around its timetable and reserve departures from the hotel, but the service is also available before check-in and after checkout.
Rooms
Rooms accommodate one to four people, and guests remove their shoes indoors. Superior Twin rooms provide a two-person option, while the Deluxe room accommodates four. Some interiors feature wall art and headboards inspired by the Mount Hakodate ropeway and the city's night view.
The View Bath Twin accommodates up to three guests and has a view from the bathroom. OMO House rooms include a kitchen, so you can buy ingredients locally and cook during your stay. Kitchens are limited to that room category rather than provided in every room.
All rooms are nonsmoking. If you're traveling with children or friends, compare the sleeping arrangements and permitted occupancy before choosing among the larger layouts.
Facilities
The guest-only bathhouse uses iron-rich, amber-colored hot-spring water. Indoor baths, open-air baths, and individual pot baths are joined by dry and mist saunas and a cold-water bath. This is a bathing area, not a viewpoint over the city.
Baths are open from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. and again from 5 to 10 a.m. You can have a soak after an evening excursion or before breakfast. Men's and women's bathing areas are separate.
The second-floor OMO Base lounge provides seating and a neighborhood map for planning your next outing. In the evening, stained-glass lighting and performances on a hand-cranked organ feature in the free Hakodate Night View Time event. Drinks and desserts cost extra.
Free luggage lockers are available around check-in and checkout. A laundry room and shared microwave also come in handy when Hakodate is one stop on a longer Hokkaido journey.
Dining
OMO Dining's breakfast buffet centers on a star-shaped open kitchen inspired by Goryokaku. Guests can assemble a seafood rice bowl, try sushi or charcoal-grilled seafood and vegetables, and sample rice-stuffed squid. The seafood ramen uses broth flavored with kelp, shellfish, and crab.
Breakfast runs from 7 to 10 a.m., with last entry at 9:30. If you have an early train, check that the opening time works with your departure before adding breakfast to your stay.
Reserved for hotel guests, OMO Cafe & Bar opens from 3 to 11 p.m. Coffee, sweets, and a salted-seafood-and-beer set are among the options for an afternoon break or a drink after bathing. The retail section remains open 24 hours.
Location and transport
Shinkansen passengers need to change at Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station for the Hakodate Liner. The local train takes around 20 minutes to reach central Hakodate, followed by the walk to the hotel. Hakodate Station itself isn't a Shinkansen stop.
The free guest bus usually runs about once an hour, linking the hotel with Motomachi, the Bay Area, Goryokaku Park, Hakodate Jiyu Market, and the Mount Hakodate Ropeway stop. Reserve departures from the hotel using the instructions provided on arrival, and check that day's pickup points and return times. City trams offer another option when their routes and schedules better match your plans.
A separate paid bus travels directly to the summit of Mount Hakodate during the warmer months and requires a reservation. This is a different service from the free loop serving the ropeway. The summit bus doesn't operate during the winter road closure, and about 40 steps separate its parking area from the observation area.
Airport access
From Hakodate Airport, the airport shuttle bus takes about 20 minutes to the Hakodate Station stop. Allow extra time for road traffic and the walk from the station to the hotel. This is the airport's city shuttle, not the hotel's sightseeing bus.
Why stay here
The guest bus makes a car-free sightseeing stay easier to organize, while proximity to the station helps with arrival and onward travel. You can explore different parts of Hakodate during the day and return for a hot-spring bath instead of arranging a separate bathing excursion. The main planning task is coordinating the bus timetable with the places you want to visit.
Hakodate Jiyu Market in Shinkawacho sells fresh seafood and local food products, which guests in an OMO House room can prepare in their kitchen. At Goryokaku Park, paths follow the moat around the star-shaped fort, while the adjacent tower reveals its layout from above. The hotel's sightseeing loop serves both places.
Good to know
Check-in begins at 3 p.m., and checkout is at 11 a.m. Paid parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with nearby alternatives when the hotel spaces are full. The sightseeing loop changes during ropeway maintenance periods, so confirm both the route and timetable if Mount Hakodate is central to your plans.
