Overview
A west-side passage links JR Kyushu Hotel Kagoshima directly with Kagoshima-Chuo Station. From the ticket gates, follow the route toward the West Exit to reach the entrance without stepping outside. The route stays indoors.
That connection is the main reason to book, especially with luggage, after a late Shinkansen arrival, or before an early departure. Rooms are split between the North and South Buildings, each with its own elevators and room lineup. Both share a front desk on the second floor of the South Building.
Rooms
Nine room types are divided between the two buildings. Standard doubles measure 15 or 16 sq m, while every twin room is at least 24 sq m, leaving more room for open luggage. The buildings also have different interior styles and bed brands.
Larger layouts give groups more flexibility. The 30 sq m South Deluxe Twin accommodates three guests with an extra bed, while the 33 sq m North Deluxe Twin sleeps up to five with paid extra bedding. A 36 sq m Universal Twin has wider passages and carefully positioned furniture and switches.
The 16 sq m COZY Double includes entry to a guest-only shared area with water, laundry facilities, a microwave, and selected loan items. Check the full room name before booking because it determines both your building and the facilities attached to the category.
Facilities
Staying guests can use the self-service luggage area on the lobby floor at any time. It comes in handy before check-in, after checkout, or between a train arrival and room handover.
Both buildings have coin laundries that operate around the clock. Four meeting rooms accommodate up to 40 people, and traditional Thai body care is available by advance reservation. Drivers use the adjacent Amu Plaza Kagoshima car parks, where spaces are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Dining
Breakfast is available in either building. Ekitei Satsuma in the North Building serves a Japanese and Western buffet from 06:30 to 10:00, including Kagoshima dishes such as black pork shabu-shabu and fried fish cakes. PRONTO in the South Building serves a lighter morning plate from 07:00 to 11:00.
Ekitei Satsuma reopens for dinner with local pork, chicken, hotpot, and set meals. PRONTO continues through the day as a cafe before changing to a casual food-and-drink venue in the evening. These two formats accommodate both early risers and slower mornings without requiring a trip elsewhere.
Location and transport
Kagoshima-Chuo is the southern terminus of the Kyushu Shinkansen. Trains travel north toward Kumamoto and Hakata, with some services continuing to Shin-Osaka. Conventional JR routes cover Ibusuki and the Kirishima direction, supporting regional rail days beyond Kagoshima City.
Trams and buses depart from the other side of the gates, connecting the Kagoshima-Chuo Station Area with Tenmonkan and the waterfront. Neither district is directly outside the hotel. Tenmonkan is about 10 minutes away by tram, while the Sakurajima ferry requires a further ride toward the port.
Airport access
Airport limousine buses connect Kagoshima Chuo Terminal Building with Kagoshima Airport in about 40 minutes. The terminal building is reached from the East Exit, while the hotel connects to the west side of the rail complex. This is a nearby service rather than a hotel-door bus, so allow time to cross the concourse or use the underground passage.
Reservations aren't required, but buses follow a timetable and road traffic can affect the journey. Check the current schedule before an early flight.
Why stay here
The indoor station connection eases luggage-heavy arrivals, early Shinkansen departures, and regional rail days. Larger twin rooms, two breakfast formats, and anytime luggage storage add flexibility beyond a simple overnight stop. The tradeoff is less immediate access to Tenmonkan nightlife and the airport bus terminal on the east side.
Amu Plaza Kagoshima and the rail complex put shops, restaurants, quick meals, and souvenir shopping close to the ticket gates. The Ferris wheel above the complex looks across the city toward Sakurajima, so an evening nearby needn't be limited to waiting for the next train.
Good to know
Your room category determines whether you use the North or South Building, and their elevators are separate. The shared front desk is on the second floor of the South Building. Parking is in neighboring commercial car parks rather than a reservable hotel lot, and event days can be busy.
