Overview

JR Inn Asahikawa works best for trips built around trains, easy transfers, and the convenience of an attached mall rather than resort-style services. The hotel is directly connected to Asahikawa Station through AEON Mall Asahikawa Ekimae. After leaving the west ticket gate, follow the route toward the north exit into the mall, then take the hotel elevator to reception on the fifth floor.

This setup is especially convenient for short rail overnights, business stays, and sightseeing around the Asahikawa Station Area. It also keeps regional trips toward Asahiyama Zoo, Biei, and Furano simple, with everyday shopping and casual meals close by in the mall.

Rooms

Rooms are compact and designed mainly for solo travelers and pairs, with a few options for more space or specific accessibility needs. Single and semi-double rooms are 17 sq m and have 140 cm-wide beds. Twin rooms begin at 24 sq m with 120 cm-wide beds, while the larger twin category is 27 sq m. A 30 sq m universal room can be requested directly when booking, and a large twin room can accommodate three guests.

Facilities

Most shared facilities are on the fifth floor, making them easy to use before or after a day out. The large public bath is open from 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM and again from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Bring your room key and a towel from your room; in-room loungewear and slippers may be worn on the way to the bath.

The JR Inn Lounge offers complimentary coffee and a quiet place to read or work from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM. In the lobby pillow corner, guests can choose from about 20 pillow types, subject to availability. Free Wi-Fi and wired LAN are provided, though very high-volume data use may be limited. The fifth-floor coin laundry has four washers with automatic detergent dispensers, and the front desk accepts laundry or dry cleaning before 9:00 AM for return after 5:00 PM.

Dining

Breakfast is served at Grand Farm Buffet on the fourth floor of AEON Mall Asahikawa Ekimae, which is directly connected to the hotel. Hours are 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM, with last entry at 9:30 AM. Breakfast costs 1,800 yen per person including tax, and children who are not yet in elementary school eat free.

There is no in-house dinner restaurant, so the attached mall is the easiest option for evening meals. The front desk can also suggest nearby places to eat. Outside food and drinks may not be brought into the fifth-floor lounge.

Location and transport

The clearest route from JR trains begins at the west ticket gate and follows signs toward the north exit. Once inside AEON Mall, take the hotel elevator to reception. For Asahiyama Zoo, direct buses leave from stop 6 at the North Entrance on the east side of Asahikawa Station. They run about every 30 minutes and take about 40 minutes, making zoo visits straightforward without a rental car.

Drivers should use the AEON Mall Asahikawa Ekimae parking facility. The hotel rate is 800 yen per night for up to 24 hours from entry. Vehicles taller than 2.2 meters need another parking option, and the Miyashita Street entrance closes after midnight. Pay at the front desk to receive a 2D barcode for exiting. Some nearby rail lots are not affiliated with the hotel, so make sure you are using the mall parking area if you want the hotel rate.

Airport access

From Asahikawa Airport, take either the airport bus toward central Asahikawa or a local direct bus to Asahikawa Station. The airport bus usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes, while the local direct service takes about 35 minutes, depending on traffic and weather. Airport buses are timed around flight arrivals and departures; local buses are not, so allow extra time before outbound flights.

At the airport, station-bound buses depart from stop 1 by Exit 4. Ticket machines are in the Domestic Arrivals Lobby near Exit 3. After getting off at Asahikawa Station, continue through the rail concourse and mall connection to reception on the fifth floor.

Why stay here

Stay here if your itinerary depends on JR trains, the Asahiyama Zoo bus, or the Asahikawa Airport bus more than on spending long stretches in the room. The station and mall connection keeps transport, shopping, and check-in close together, which is especially helpful with luggage or a tight schedule. The public bath, coffee lounge, and pillow corner add comfort between outings, while the mix of room types accommodates solo guests, pairs, travelers who need a universal room, and groups of three in the large twin room.

Good to know

Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, and check-out is at 10:00 AM. Early check-in may be available from 1:00 PM for 1,000 yen per hour, depending on availability. Late check-out may be extended until noon for 1,000 yen per hour. Call the hotel if you expect to arrive after midnight.

Luggage storage is limited to your check-in and check-out dates. Payment is made at check-in, and the hotel accepts cash, credit cards, and some electronic money. Gift cards and debit cards are not accepted.

Children age 6 and under may share a bed free of charge. Children age 7 and older, or younger children using their own bed, are charged the adult rate. Pets are not accepted, although seeing eye dogs and service dogs are allowed. Specific room numbers cannot be reserved. The hotel does not lend PCs, but guests may use their own computers in guest rooms or in the fifth-floor lounge.
