Overview
Guest-only public baths and saunas occupy the second floor at Hotel Monterey Kobe, while Sannomiya subway's West Exit 3 is about one minute away. The hotel is just uphill from the livelier streets of Kobe-Sannomiya, close to Ikuta Shrine and the district's shopping and dining.
All 231 rooms are non-smoking. Each of the four main room types measures 24 square meters, providing noticeably more floor space than many compact business hotels nearby.
Rooms
Double, twin, king, and triple rooms all measure 24 square meters. Doubles have a 160-centimeter-wide bed, king rooms use a 220-centimeter-wide bed, and twins have two 110-centimeter-wide beds.
Bed setup is the main decision. Triple rooms add an extra bed to the twin layout, allowing three guests to share the same room without moving to a smaller standard option.
Facilities
Trinite is reserved for staying guests and opens in the morning and evening. The men's side has a public bath and dry sauna, while the women's side has a public bath and mist sauna. Guests need to bring towels from their rooms.
A basement laundrette operates around the clock. Drivers have 38 paid spaces divided between a multistorey garage and a small outdoor lot, but parking is first come, first served, and vehicle-size limits apply.
Dining
Breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet at Spazio on the first floor, served from 7:00 to 10:00 with last entry at 9:30. Alongside baked bread, the buffet features local choices such as Kobe-style bokkake udon.
San Michele is the hotel's Italian restaurant, serving lunch and dinner around an open kitchen. It provides a full meal option downstairs, while Sannomiya's surrounding streets have a much wider selection of casual dining and bars.
Location and transport
West Exit 3 of the Kobe Municipal Subway is the closest approach, about one minute away. Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya's west ticket gate is roughly four minutes from the hotel, JR Sannomiya's West Exit about six minutes away, and Hanshin around eight minutes away.
These operators form the wider Sannomiya Station district, but they don't share gates. For the Sanyo Shinkansen, Shin-Kobe Station is one subway stop north. JR, Hankyu, and Hanshin provide east-west routes toward Osaka and western Hyogo.
Airport access
Kobe Airport has a direct Port Liner connection to Sannomiya, followed by the walk to the hotel. This is rail access rather than a hotel shuttle.
Limousine buses from Kansai International Airport and Osaka Itami Airport also serve stops around Sannomiya. They don't stop at the hotel entrance, so the final stretch is on foot or by taxi. Check the current timetable before travel.
Why stay here
The combination of 24-square-meter rooms, guest bathing facilities, and very short subway access gives the hotel more to offer than a quick overnight stop. Shin-Kobe is also one subway stop away, although the hotel isn't directly connected to a station and the approach rises slightly from central Sannomiya.
Ikuta Shrine is close enough for an early walk, while Center Gai and the surrounding streets provide shopping, dining, and evening drinks. Continue west for Motomachi, Chinatown, and the Former Foreign Settlement.
Good to know
Trinite doesn't admit guests with tattoos or infants who still use diapers. Towels must be brought from the guest room.
