Overview
On the western side of Osaka-Namba, Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka is about a minute's walk from JR Namba and the OCAT airport bus terminal. Underground passages connect the hotel to the wider Namba Station complex. Minami's restaurants and evening crowds are nearby, while the short walk from the airport bus is welcome when you're carrying luggage.
The interiors draw on English country houses and gardens. Guest rooms occupy floors 24 to 31, above the 22nd-floor lobby and restaurants with city views.
Rooms
Standard rooms start at 19 square meters, with different bed widths in the Double and Semi Double categories. Standard Doubles have a 160-centimeter-wide bed, while similarly sized Semi Doubles use a narrower 138-centimeter bed. Standard Twins provide two separate beds across 23 square meters.
For three guests, the 26-square-meter Triple has two regular beds and an extra bed. The third bed is shorter at 188 centimeters, which may matter for a taller adult. Junior Suites offer a much larger 59-square-meter layout if you'll spend more time in the room. All rooms are non-smoking, with decor continuing the British-inspired theme.
Facilities
Check-in is on the 22nd floor. The building's lower levels cover several everyday needs, with a Life supermarket in the basement, a DCM store for daily necessities, and a Junkudo bookshop. Drinks and groceries don't require a separate outing, and the supermarket remains open until midnight.
Paid parking is available on the sixth floor on a first-come, first-served basis.
Dining
Breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet served from 6:30 am to 10:00 am, with last orders at 9:30 am. Alongside fish, rice, eggs, and bread, the changing selection includes regional dishes such as skewered fried foods and Akashiyaki, soft, egg-rich dumplings served with broth.
The 22nd floor has three options for a planned meal with city views. ESCALE serves French cuisine, KOBE offers counter-style teppanyaki, and ZUIENTEI specializes in Japanese food. Dotonbori's smaller restaurants are also within walking distance when you'd rather eat out.
Location and transport
Namba's stations are spread across several connected buildings. JR Namba is closest, while the west exits of Hanshin and Kintetsu Osaka-Namba stations and the Sennichimae subway line are also about a minute away. Exit 30 on the Yotsubashi Line connects to the hotel through an underground passage.
Allow about five minutes from the Midosuji Line exits. That line runs directly to Umeda and Shin-Osaka, where you can connect with the Shinkansen. Nankai Namba is farther east, about ten minutes on foot from its north or central exits. These estimates cover the route between each exit and the hotel, so leave extra time to reach your platform.
Airport access
Direct buses from Kansai International Airport and Itami Airport stop at OCAT, about a minute from the hotel through the connecting passage. Buses depart from OCAT's second floor. This route avoids a rail transfer and leaves only a short final walk, though road traffic should be factored into the return journey.
Nankai's Rapi:t trains provide another direct route from Kansai Airport to Nankai Namba. Rail avoids road congestion, but the walk from Nankai Namba is longer than the one from OCAT.
Why stay here
Airport bus arrivals, evenings in Minami, and meals around Dotonbori are all easy to plan from here. The British-inspired interiors will appeal if you prefer traditional decor, and the room choices let couples weigh up a compact double against a larger twin or suite.
Dotonbori has a canal-side walk beneath Osaka's oversized restaurant signs. Nearby Hozenji Yokocho offers a contrasting scene, with a narrow cobbled lane of restaurants around a small temple. Both can be combined in an evening on foot, without having to plan the return around the last train.
