Overview
About one minute from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, Hotel La'gent Plaza Hakodate Hokuto keeps the Hokkaido Shinkansen platforms close after a late arrival or before an early departure. A natural hot-spring bath and breakfast from 5:45 make an overnight transfer more comfortable than a basic station stop.
Central Hakodate is still another train ride away. The Hakodate Liner takes 15 to 22 minutes to Hakodate Station, so the morning market, waterfront, streetcars, and wider choice of evening restaurants aren't outside the door. For a city-focused visit, the Hakodate Station area is usually easier.
Rooms
All rooms are non-smoking and start at 20 square metres. Standard doubles and twins are the smallest options, while Moderate Twins add a sofa bed and accommodate a third guest. The 27.2-square-metre Family Room sleeps four with two beds and two futons; its shoes-off layout and separate bathroom and toilet make it the most flexible choice for a small group.
At 30.6 square metres, the Deluxe Twin is the largest regular room for two and also has a separate bathroom and toilet. Rail fans have a specialist option: the hotel's single 22.4-square-metre Train View room faces the Shinkansen and must be booked directly.
Facilities
The second-floor public bath uses natural hot-spring water and has an open-air section. Guests can use it without an extra charge from 5:00 to 9:30 and from 15:00 to 23:00, covering both early starts and returns after a day out.
Coin-operated laundry is available on the guest-room floors. Paid on-site parking is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with municipal parking nearby when the hotel spaces are full.
Dining
Dining Arosar serves breakfast from 5:45 to 10:00. The buffet centers on rice grown in Hokuto, accompanied by regional dishes and ingredients from southern Hokkaido.
Dinner is served from 17:30 to 21:30. An evening meal in the building is particularly convenient in this compact station district, where late dining choices are fewer than in central Hakodate.
Location and transport
The hotel is in the compact Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station Area, beside the Shinkansen stop for the Hakodate region. Staying here avoids a final Hakodate Liner journey after arrival; travelers continuing to central Hakodate take the local train instead.
The location can also simplify the start of a driving itinerary. Paid hotel parking and nearby municipal parking allow guests to begin a road trip through southern Hokkaido without first carrying their luggage into central Hakodate.
Airport access
Hakodate Airport is about 30 minutes away by car. The usual public transport route combines an airport bus to Hakodate Station with a JR train to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, taking roughly one hour for the full journey.
That route requires a change in central Hakodate. There isn't a hotel-door shuttle, and travelers shouldn't assume a through airport bus is operating without checking the current operator timetable.
Why stay here
After a late Shinkansen arrival, the one-minute walk avoids a second train and puts the natural hot-spring bath in the same building. Before an early departure, breakfast from 5:45 and bathing from 5:00 fit neatly around the timetable.
Hokkuru shares the station premises and provides tourist information, a rest area with a cafe, and local products. These facilities cover the basics during a transfer or overnight stop, but the immediate district remains compact. For several days of streetcar sightseeing, waterfront walks, and evening dining, central Hakodate keeps more of the city close at hand.
