Overview
Hotel Granvia Osaka occupies the South Gate Building at Osaka Station / Umeda, with reception on the 19th floor and a direct connection to the JR concourse. You don't need to walk outside to begin or end a train journey here.
The location simplifies late arrivals, early JR departures, and rail day trips to Kyoto or Kobe. Shinkansen services use Shin-Osaka, though, so this isn't the shortest route from your room to a bullet train.
Rooms
The 726 rooms vary considerably in size and layout. Sizes run from 14.6-square-meter Comfort Singles to 38-square-meter Granvia Twins. Standard Twins measure 25 square meters and can accommodate a third guest on a sofa bed.
Room category matters here. The smaller Comfort Singles don't have an outside view, while Granvia Twins are larger, have city views, and include access to the guest lounge on the 27th floor. Compare the floor plan and outlook rather than booking on the rail connection alone.
Facilities
The Granvia Floor lounge is reserved for guests staying on the 27th floor. Soft drinks and sweets are available, along with a small library, business support, and checkout service. It gives these guests a quieter place to pause above the busy concourses.
Free Wi-Fi is available in guest rooms, restaurants, and banquet areas. Eleven meeting and banquet rooms also support conferences and group events alongside overnight stays.
Dining
Both formal and casual meals are available in-house. French and Japanese restaurants share the lineup with teppanyaki, a cafe, a bar, and lounges, so dinner doesn't have to involve navigating the wider Osaka-Umeda complex after check-in.
Fleuve on the 19th floor serves a Japanese and Western breakfast buffet. Osaka-inspired dishes appear alongside familiar breakfast choices, and guests can take coffee back to their rooms.
Location and transport
The hotel opens directly into Osaka-Umeda, northern Osaka's dense cluster of JR, subway, and private-rail services. JR covers many trips toward Kyoto and Kobe, while the wider Umeda network handles local journeys across Osaka. Several nearby stops share the Umeda name, but each has separate gates and operators.
Universal Studios Japan is another straightforward JR outing. The journey from Osaka Station takes about 11 minutes, and the hotel sells 1-Day Studio Passes at reception.
Airport access
The Haruka limited express runs directly from Kansai International Airport to Osaka Station in about 47 minutes. At the Osaka end, the hotel's station connection avoids another subway or taxi transfer.
Limousine buses also serve Osaka-Umeda, including services from Osaka Itami Airport. Stops are spread around the district rather than located at the hotel door, so check the exact stop before traveling with luggage.
Why stay here
A room above JR Osaka Station removes much of the strain from a multi-city Kansai itinerary. You can arrive, check in, eat, and depart again by train without turning each step into a separate journey across Umeda. The tradeoff is clear: Shin-Osaka is more convenient when the entire stay revolves around the Shinkansen.
The neighborhood is intensely urban. Department stores, shopping centers, and underground dining streets surround the rail complex. Tenma and Nakanoshima are easy local outings when you want to step away from Umeda's towers and concourses.
Good to know
Reception isn't at street level. After entering the South Gate Building, head to the 19th floor, and check the hotel's access map in advance if this is your first time navigating Osaka-Umeda.
Osaka Station and Shin-Osaka are different places. A short JR transfer connects them, but travelers with an early Shinkansen and no plans in Umeda may prefer to stay beside Shin-Osaka.
1-minute walk
