Overview
The Library Cafe gives Comfort Hotel ERA Kobe Sannomiya a second place to spend time beyond the guest rooms. Open until midnight, it serves free coffee and tea and remains available to staying guests before check-in and after checkout. Hanshin's A23 exit is about four minutes away on foot.
The hotel is on the east side of the wider Sannomiya Station district. JR, Hanshin, Hankyu, subway, and Port Liner gates are spread across several blocks, so the shortest route depends on which service you use.
Rooms
Room sizes vary enough to merit a careful look at the categories. Standard Doubles measure 15 to 16 square meters, while Queen Economy rooms provide 18 square meters and a 164-centimeter-wide bed. Standard Twins range from 19 to 24 square meters, and the 29-square-meter Family Room has three beds. A 28-square-meter universal room can be booked by contacting the hotel.
All rooms are non-smoking and have Serta mattresses, bubble shower heads, and ionic hair dryers. Straightening and curling irons can be borrowed from the front desk in limited numbers.
Facilities
Open from 10:00 until midnight, the guest-only Comfort Library Cafe has free drinks, Wi-Fi, charging points, and more than 100 books selected around travel and the local area. The long opening hours are particularly handy before a room is ready, after checkout, or when you'd rather plan the next day somewhere other than your room.
The service changes through the day. A complimentary regional sweet is offered from 14:00 to 17:00, followed by local sake, wine, and snacks for purchase from 17:00 to 23:00. Self check-in machines streamline arrival, while a 24-hour coin laundry helps with longer stays.
Dining
A paid breakfast buffet is served in the Library Cafe from 6:30 to 9:30. Fresh salads and fruit anchor the spread, alongside hot dishes and eggs prepared at the live station. Several local choices feature Awaji Island milk and onions or Hyogo-grown black soybeans.
There isn't a full-service restaurant for lunch or dinner. The Kobe-Sannomiya area has a much broader selection of restaurants, cafes, and bars, while the evening cafe service is better for an after-dinner drink than a full meal.
Location and transport
Hanshin's A23 exit provides the shortest published route, at about four minutes on foot. JR Sannomiya's East Exit is around five minutes away, Kobe Municipal Subway's East Exit 3 about six minutes, and Hankyu's HE4 exit about seven. Despite sharing the Sannomiya name, these are separate stations and ticket gates.
The subway reaches Shin-Kobe in one stop for Sanyo Shinkansen connections. JR, Hankyu, and Hanshin provide several routes toward Osaka and across Kobe, while the Port Liner runs south to Kobe Airport.
Airport access
The Port Liner travels directly between Kobe Airport and Sannomiya in about 18 minutes. From the Port Liner's Sannomiya station, the hotel publishes an additional walk of about five minutes.
There is no hotel-door airport shuttle. Allow extra time to find the Port Liner side of the station complex, especially with luggage or when transferring from another rail operator.
Why stay here
The Library Cafe distinguishes this hotel from room-only business hotels near Sannomiya. Solo travelers, couples, and families have somewhere to relax with a drink for much of the day, while the larger twin and three-bed rooms offer alternatives to the compact doubles.
Sannomiya and Motomachi form Kobe's central shopping and dining district. Ikuta Shrine is nearby, with Chinatown and the Former Foreign Settlement farther west and south. Several central sights therefore remain within walking reach, without adding a local train or subway ride at the beginning and end of the day.
Good to know
The hotel is close to several Sannomiya rail operators but isn't directly connected to any station. Hanshin's A23 exit gives the shortest published walk, while JR, Hankyu, subway, and Port Liner arrivals follow different routes.
Standard checkout is at 10:00, and breakfast costs extra unless included in the room plan. Afternoon sweets can change with the season, and alcohol served during the evening cafe service is charged separately.
